I started this project to better understand out “How to See,”
but there is no “How to See” there are just different “Ways to See.”
The more you can find different “Ways to See” the more creative you can become and the more effective you can communicate YOUR vision through your art.

I don’t take a camera with me to take photographs...... I take it to pay attention

Exercise #1
A. With your camera take 20 photos
Discussion....... of what you saw
each person describe or point out what they saw and their reason for photo

 

BEWARE OF THE SEDUCTION OF REALITY!

look for the big shapes, beware of searching out the little detail
Beware of labels/symbols........ what we know is usually not what we see

 

KNOWLEDGE
To know..... we notice only what we think noteworthy.
What “language” do you speak?

IGNORE..... to not know... to overlook
What “languages” don’t you understand?
Pay attention to what you ignore
Ignore Silently
Ignore with vigor

Filters..... our vision is highly selective...... we pick out only certain things and say that is what is there.
When your mind becomes obsessed with something.... you see it everywhere
Other Filters....... become aware of your filters
Knowledge To “notice” To “Ignore

Expectations Often we see only what we expect to see..... if what we expect to see is not there then...... nothing is there
Pay attention to what you ignore

MUCH OF THE TIME WE GO THROUGH LIFE
WITHOUT SEEING....

Great Photographs or Paintings don’t document where you have been, but how you felt when you were there.
It should be about having as much fun as you can.

APERTURE ........ The amount of light let in increases the depth of field
Perspective........ different points of view

Having a prepared mind is very important

The only thing that lasts is the essence...otherwise it is transitory fashion.

compare to Bach..constant variations of a single theme

Learn to eliminate ...... come to the heart of the matter

The simpler the solution the more powerful it is.

It is a matter of distilling...find the great beauty in simplicity
